Ambitious goal of being the most climate friendly hotel in Finland

At Solo Sokos Hotel Pier 4, we are committed to creating sustainable tourism. Our goal is to minimize the climate impact of hotel and restaurant visits.

Nature is present everywhere in our hotel. The proximity to nature, the breathable wooden structure, and natural materials create a multi-sensory and atmospheric environment that is ideal for relaxing, working, and simply feeling good.

We prioritize local partners and highlight Finnish expertise together. We elevate domestic and Nordic ingredients, respecting their unique flavors and deepest essence.

We strive to use less and recycle more. We favor recycled materials and explore circular economy solutions.

We follow the sustainable tourism programs Green Key and Sustainable Travel Finland. As part of the S Group and Sokos Hotels chain, we are committed to achieving shared ambitious climate goals.

Our aim is to be Finland's most climate-responsible hotel, guiding us to make better everyday choices for the environment. We want to be honest and transparent in what we do. Measuring and improving sustainability efforts is an ongoing process, and we are just at the beginning of this journey. We are constantly exploring ways to stay at the forefront of sustainability in the hotel industry. Tomorrow, we will do better than today.

Examples of our sustainability efforts:

  • From the very beginning, the project has been guided by the goal of minimizing the building's climate impact throughout its lifecycle. The building, constructed from Finnish and Swedish wood, is designed to last over 100 years and to act as a carbon sink for its entire lifespan.
  • Our food philosophy is based on local sourcing and the comprehensive use of ingredients. We primarily use domestic or at least Nordic ingredients. We prefer seasonal vegetables and fish and strive to utilize ingredients from start to finish, minimizing waste.
  • Nature is present in our hotel at all levels, providing well-being for both our staff and guests. This is reflected in natural materials, the proximity to the sea, the hotel's soundscape, the small woodland in the inner courtyard, and the nature trail on the rooftop terrace.
  • We highlight Finnish expertise in collaboration with our domestic partners. We favor recycled materials and seek effective circular economy solutions. For example, the drinking glasses at Restaurant Harbore are made from used beer bottles, workwear incorporates recycled materials, and leftover building materials have been repurposed into small tables for the lobby café.
  • We use renewable electricity, mostly produced by the S Group’s own facilities. We adhere to the Green Key sustainable tourism program and the Sustainable Travel Finland program. Additionally, we are pursuing LEED Platinum certification for the building.
