Sustainability

Our hotel has been awarded the Green Key certificate and the Sustainable Travel Finland label. We are committed to taking environmental wellbeing into account in our hotel operations.

What is Green Key?

The Green Key environmental certificate is an international eco-label for the hospitality industry. Companies that are awarded the label undertake to increase the environmental awareness of both its staff and customers, conserve energy and water, and reduce the environmental burden of the hospitality industry, among other things. The label consists of environmental criteria for the hospitality industry, which the company undertakes to comply with, monitor and report on. Green Key motivates both staff and customers to take ecological actions.

We are committed to taking environmental wellbeing into account in our hotel operations. As an indication of this, Original Sokos Hotel Alexandra has been awarded the Green Key label. Green Key is an international eco-label.

What is the STF label?

The “Sustainable Travel Finland” programme developed by Visit Finland helps Finnish tourism companies adopt sustainable and responsible practices. Companies that complete the STF programme and meet its criteria are awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland label, and their operations are monitored and reviewed regularly. The STF label helps consumers identify responsible tourism companies.

Original Sokos Hotel Alexandra is one of the first to receive the STF label in its area and the whole hotel chain.

Sustainability Tips:

•Drink clean tap water. The water in Jyväskylä is clean and good. Glasses are available in the rooms, and in restaurants, water is served in jugs at the tables.

•Favor local food in restaurants and at breakfast. Even though the buffet is full of delicacies, start with a smaller portion on your plate and take more if you still have room.

•Give and experience gifts. Instead of traditional material gifts, prefer gift cards, restaurant dinners, and pampering weekends.

•Travel by bike, on foot, or use public transportation. Explore Jyväskylä’s urban culture, enjoy live music, and support local shops and boutiques. There are several flea markets in the city.

•Hike in nearby destinations. Local travel is now in, and our city has wonderful hiking destinations both near and far. The hotel reception has a folder with tips on the best nearby destinations.

•Drive an electric car. There are electric car charging stations in the backyard of our hotel.

•By choosing a Green Key certified hotel, you are promoting responsible and sustainable tourism. Thank you for caring!

How you can make a difference during your visit:

•Turn off the shower when applying shampoo or soap.

•Leave the towel on the rack and reuse it.

•Turn off unnecessary lights or remove the light card when leaving the room.

•Choose local, organic, and plant-based products for breakfast and lunch.

•Eat everything you take.

•Utilize ResQ Club’s surplus products.

•Sort waste in the room. The cleaning staff will sort the bottles, papers, and glasses you leave on the table.

•Use the stairs instead of the elevators.

Better choices are always welcome!
