Sustainable tourism

Levin vastuullisuus

Levi, our beloved destination! Let's take care of the Arctic fell nature and create sustainable tourism together.

Levi holds a special place in our hearts, and we are committed to incorporating sustainability into our operations! As evidence of this commitment, Break Sokos Hotel Levi has been awarded both the Green Key certification and the Sustainable Travel Finland badge.

Our hotel proudly displays the Green Key and Sustainable Travel Finland symbols. This means that we adhere to strict environmental criteria and contribute to the preservation of our surroundings. With environmentally certified hotels, travelers have better opportunities to make sustainable choices and reduce their carbon footprint.

Green Key

Green Key is the world's leading sustainability program and certification for the tourism industry, promoting sustainable tourism. The certification criteria are based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and include requirements related to reducing environmental impact, increasing social benefits, and supporting the local economy. To obtain the Green Key environmental label, a destination must meet the program's requirements, covering 13 areas of operation. Read more about the Green Key sustainability program here.

Sustainable Travel Finland

The Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) badge is a indication to valuable and long-term efforts in favor of sustainable tourism. Sustainable Travel Finland is Visit Finland's sustainable tourism program, which takes into account ecological, socio-cultural, and economic sustainability. What do we do on a daily basis for the environment?

  • Responsibility belongs to all of us. Our entire staff participates in environmental work, receiving training and orientation on environmental issues as part of our work. We have established a sustainability team composed of employees from our hotel and restaurants.
  • Our hotel follows proper waste sorting in accordance with waste legislation and municipal waste management regulations. We provide sorting instructions for both our guests and staff. In our hotel, recycling stations are available for guests in the parking garage and elevator lobbies, where you can recycle your waste. Our cleaning staff ensures that the bottles, glasses, and papers left on your room are recycled on your behalf.
  • We use environmentally certified cleaning agents for room cleaning. During your stay, you can influence the frequency of cleaning in your room – request cleaning as needed. If you wish, you can use the same towel throughout your hotel visit, which reduces laundry load.
  • Don't feed the bins. Both breakfast and lunch buffets are filled with delicacies, so start with a small amount and then refill as needed. Have you tried the homemade buns or the breakfast porridge? Using the ResQ app, you can make tasty purchases of food items at risk of being wasted, for a small fee.
  • Cheers to clean tap water. Tap water is a great and excellent help for thirst, especially nice to sip after a sauna. Glasses for tap water are available in your room and in the guest saunas. We have a few bathtubs throughout the hotel; the water pressure is adjusted to be water-efficient, and our guests have access to Finnish Sauna at our Finland-certified guest saunas.
  • Small deeds make a big difference. Regarding energy saving, we have reduced the temperature of the parking garage, shortened the opening hours of guest saunas, and kept the temperatures of guest saunas moderate. We use energy-saving LED lights for lighting. Our electricity is produced using 100% renewable energy sources.
  • We collaborate with local businesses and educational institutions. Local products from Lempi Siimes are available for purchase in the reception shop. We offer internships and work placements for students and children from local schools.
  • Our partnerships and charitable efforts include support for the Levi Ski Club, Pink Ribbon fundraising, and the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation.
  • We recommend environmentally friendly transportation: in the summer, you have the opportunity to rent bicycles and year-round Nordic walking poles. It's easy to hop on the ski bus from the nearby bus stop when heading to the slopes – by purchasing a lift pass in advance, bus rides are free. We also encourage environmentally friendly travel.

How can you contribute to environmental friendliness during your visit?

  • Turn off the shower when applying shampoo or soap.
  • Use a glass when brushing your teeth.
  • Leave your towel on the rack and reuse it.
  • You decide on the cleaning frequency of your room.
  • Turn off unnecessary lights, or remove the key card from the slot when leaving the room.
  • Choose local, organic, and vegetarian options for breakfast and lunch.
  • Eat everything you take.
  • Take advantage of the ResQ Club app's products.
  • Sort your waste in the hotel lobby or parking garage sorting stations. The bottles, papers, and glasses you leave on your room will be sorted by our housekeeping staff.
  • Explore attractions by biking or walking.
  • Use the stairs instead of the elevators, give experiences as gifts in the form of gift cards, and support local expertise by renting sports equipment or participating in safaris and dining in restaurants.
