Sponsorship Collaboration of Break Sokos Hotel Levi: Maiju Laurila

Responsibility is important to us, as evidenced by our Green Key certification and the Sustainable Travel Finland label. Part of our responsibility is to support athletes and thereby act as enablers of dreams. We have entered into a sponsorship collaboration with para-athlete Maiju Laurila.

Maiju was injured in a snowmobile accident in 2008, after which she got acquainted with numerous para-sports during her rehabilitation period. Among these, sit-skiing eventually captured Maiju's heart. Maiju first found herself in alpine skiing competitions in 2015, but due to the lack or scarcity of enthusiasts, coaching, and team, Maiju decided to make a significant move with her family to move to Lapland in 2017. It was then that Maiju started training with the Levi Ski Club. In 2020, Maiju, along with her coach Pertti Kuivalainen, fought her way to the Beijing Paralympics, but high placements were not achieved due to severe injuries.

Maiju now reports that both her physical and mental condition are at the pre-injury level, training is going well, and her competition equipment is in order. She is looking forward to the next major competitions and the Milano Cortina Paralympics. Collecting points will begin at the start of the next season in FIS competitions.

We support Maiju in pursuing her dreams by donating 10 accommodation nights annually, which she can use during her competition trips. We also ensure that our sponsored athletes have the best accommodation from a sustainability perspective. Our sponsored athletes do not have to bear the burden of the environmental impact of their travels while resting in our soft sheets!
