Things to Do and See
Things to Do and See in Kouvola
Poikilo
Just around the corner from the hotel, you can find the art and museum house Poikilo. The Poikilo museums consist of the Kouvola Art Museum and City Museum, Kouta Gallery, Kino Poikilo and Poikilo Gallery. The Kouvola Art Museum holds three striking exhibitions every year.
Summer theatres and theatres
Kouvola has two all-year-round theatres: Kouvola Theatre and Kuusankoski Theatre. In addition to Kouvola's centre, many nearby areas have active amateur and summer theatre companies. The summer theatres of Korvenkylä and Valkeala in particular are very popular in the summer.
Concerts and venues
Kouvola's most popular music venues are the Kouvola City Hall, Kuusankoskitalo and Kouvolatalo, as well as the Art Factory Taideruukki's concert facilities Pato Klubi and Pato Areena in the old factory area of Kuusankoski. House of Rock at the centre of Kouvola plays music for a variety of different listeners, and Pub123 often hosts blues jam sessions on weekends.
Taideruukki – Art Factory
The community of artisans and artists at the old paper mill of Kuusankoski gives a warm welcome to all visitors. Cafe Ruukitar on the ground floor of Taideruukki is both a café and organic bakery. The first floor houses temporary art exhibitions and a cosy event venue.
Nature destinations
Despite its reputation for being made out of concrete, Kouvola is a very green city. In addition to the Repovesi national park, you can trek along the Alakylä nature trail, a duckboard path that runs along the shores of the River Kymi through thick woodlands that are nearly in their natural state, or visit the Heisanharju recreation area and its scenery of ice age eskers. Kettumäki park also has domestic animals!
Verla
The Verla groundwood and board mill is a UNESCO World Heritage site where the entire village makes history come alive. The history of this small factory village goes hand in hand with the production of its world-famous sheets of board. You can also find prehistoric rock paintings at the head of the Verlankoski rapids. The paintings are estimated to be over 7,000 years old.
Arboretum Mustila
Arbotetum Mustila, or the Mustila botanical garden, is a day trip worth experiencing. June is the busiest time at the park, when the rhododendron valley and azalea slope are in full bloom. You can find geocaches in the three main routes of the park and the nature trail for children or sit down and relax in a forest church.
