Nature and outdoor tips in Lappeenranta area

The distance along the coastal track from Myllysaari to Skinnarila Tervahauta park is about 10 kilometers. On the beach track, you can look out over the beautiful Lake Saimaa while walking through the lush grove forest. Along the route there is a natural spring where you can get fresh spring water to drink. Along the route there are benches and training equipment – so well suited for dog walkers, families with children, backpackers, anyone!

Pappilanniemi Nature Reserve

Nature trail on the shore of Lake Saimaa near the Kaukas factory. The Pappilanniemi area is a very valuable and diverse coastal forest in southern Saimaa. In Pappilanniemi you can find original nature right next to big industry and the city.

Saimaa Canal Trail

The canal path follows the canal between the locks of Mustola and Mälkiä. Through the Canal Museum garden, the path leads past the Mälkiä lock, past the Pien-Mustola lock and further to the Mustola lock.

Mikonsaari nature trail

Mikonsaari is located in front of Lappeenranta, about 10 km from the city centre. It is well suited for a day trip. On the nature trail, you can observe the variation of habitat types in a small area. The spring of the grove provides fresh spring water. The cliffs offer a magnificent view of the western Pien-Saimaa archipelago.

Karhusaari

Karhusaari is a year-round island excursion destination right in front of the city of Lappeenranta, about 1 km by water from the harbour. There is also a lean-to on the island.

Ilkonsaari

Ilkonsaari is a great hiking destination on beautiful Lake Saimaa. A cultural addition to the island is the many Orthodox tsasounas built there. The soil is varied and the views are beautiful. The island has 2 piers, a campfire shelter and a dry toilet.

Hämmäauteensuo

Hämmäauteensuo is a rare swamp nature destination in South Karelia. Part of the swamp is a nature reserve. There is also a lean-to in the area.

Päihänniemi

In the harbour sand of Katelussaari lies the Päihänniemi hiking area, which has a fine long sandy beach. There is more than a kilometer of coastline.
