We want to be a sustainable operator and take responsibility for the environment, our customers and our staff.

At Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Mikkeli, we promote sustainable tourism in many ways:

• Responsibility is everyone´s business. Our staff are trained in environmental and sustainability matters
• We sort all waste properly. Our customers are also offered the opportunity to sort their waste
• We use eco-labelled cleaning products
• We have piloted a new ecological dry steam cleaning method during 2023 and Original Sokos Hotel Vaakuna Mikkeli was one of the finalists in the 2023 Cleaning Industry Deed of the Year Competition
• Tap water in Finland is the cleanest in the world. Our guests have the use of the Saimaa H2O water concept in our restaurant Frans & Michelle and our meeting facilities
• The electricity we use is produced from 100% renewable energy sources
• We recommend environmentally friendly modes of transport. Our guests can borrow bikes from the reception and our staff members are are happy to recommend cycle and jogging routes. Mikkelin Matkakeskus ( Mikkeli Travel Centre) is a short walk from the hotel and Mikkeli is easily accessible by train and bus
• We want to showcase Mikkeli and local features in the area to our guests. You can find pictures and stories of Mikkeli in the hotel rooms and corridors
• We use waste heat from the kitchen to heat the hotel rooms
• We started using the ResQ app in spring 2023

We want to continuously develop our operations in a more sustainable direction.

Every year, we set new sustainability targets, which we monitor throughout the year.
