The stage for historic celebrations
Olavinlinna Castle is 550 years old. The world’s northernmost medieval castle has witnessed tales and hidden secrets, standing proud in war and peace. In 2025, the Opera Festival will focus on the crème de la crème.
During the centenary year, Olavinlinna will showcase highlights from past decades. Classics that have touched audiences and made the Opera Festival world-famous. The mighty Boris Godunov, Verdi’s Macbeth and Puccini’s Turandot are particularly impressive in the castle. The summer’s novelty is The Last Temptations, a new interpretation of the beloved Finnish opera.
Fascinating baroque performances are the cherry on the cake. Our guest performers bring the oldest music ever heard at an Opera Festival to the castle. The Fairy Queen is a combination of opera and the aristocratic masques of the late 17th century. It’s pure baroque, and just as rich, colourful and exuberant as you might imagine.

During the summer months, Muikkuterassi offers a menu of seasonal, local Saimaa flavours. We don´t take individual table reservations to Muikkuterassi; we serve customers in the order of arrival.
